Wide Aisle and Narrow Aisle lift trucks are classed due to the kinds of aisles they have been designed to work in. These machines are able to turn in an aisle, whereas Very Narrow Aisle trucks actually don't turn within the aisle. There are certain aisle widths to take into account with various units.
Very Narrow Aisle or VNA trucks work in less than 6 feet places and often utilize specific guidance systems like wire, optical or rail systems in order to travel within the aisles. Several different models of VNA trucks include Swing Masts, Order Selectors and Turret Trucks. These are common models in tight retail areas and in some warehouse and storage situations.
NA or Narrow Aisle trucks are able to work within aisles which are 8 feet to 10 feet. Generally these are stand-up models like Reach Trucks. They are commonly used within warehouses and storage facilities.
Wide Aisle Standard forklifts fall into this truck category and are designed to work within aisles which are more than 11 feet wide.
Stand-Up Ergonomics
The "Ergomat" padding on stand-up models offer padding on a sloped floorboard. These features are designed to reduce operator exhaustion by absorbing vibration. The operator compartment is spacious and has an 8" low step height that helps lessen overall body fatigue by easing frequent entry and exit. The model includes polyurethane steer tires to absorb vibration and shocks caused by uneven floor in order to enable smooth travelling. For additional comfort, there is a cushioned armrest and floor mat together with a backrest designed to help keep operators comfortable and hence more productive while limiting fatigue.
Motion alarms and backup alarms are audio device accessories that produce enough sound so that the noise is heard overtop the sounds generated from the forklift itself.
The sound produced by the audio device should be discernible from other audible devices or sounds from the work environment. The sound should also be different from the other sound or audible devices in the work place. The audible device could end up contributing to OSHA noise limitation and to employee noise exposure; therefore, care must be taken.
Determine the direction and distance the sound of the audible device is made harder because of the use of hearing protection. Audible devices can occasionally get disabled from both employees and operators since they can find them really annoying. Also, audible devices can also be objectionable to nearby residents.
Additional Operator & Application Options:
Enclosed Operator Cabs: Operator enclosed cabs help to protect the operator from the elements. They use tempered glass in order to prevent injuries. Furthermore, these cabs feature an emergency exit through removing the window. Noise levels are lessened at the operator's ear because of additional sound proofing.
Operator Selectable Performance Modes: The operator could choose the performance requirement for the specific application. What's more, it allows a supervisor to set the unit's maximum performance for an operator who is just learning. Being able to reduce and adjust the unit's maximum performance allows a new operator to learn the operating features of the equipment in a controlled setting.
Impact Monitor: When the impact monitor is deactivated, a supervisor is needed to activate and override the model. This encourages the operator to be certain to manage the machine in a more controlled manner.
Dual Rear View and Panoramic Mirrors: These mirrors serve as an aid to the operator in observing the tail swing area, as well as the operating environment behind the truck.
